What is your favorite book?

Attention All Star Readers!
Hey Class,
We have to update our profile with our favorite books. Please leave a comment to this blog post stating your favorite book so we can add it to the website. The more books you read and LOVE, the more you can comment. Let's see how many FAVORITE BOOKS we can collect. I will be looking at your comments to help figure out who needs to take an Accelerated Reader test.

Light and Heat Unit

Last week we began our science on Light and Heat. During this unit students will be involved in many investigations that will explore light including how light travels, materials light can and cannot pass through, how light forms and changes shadows, light reflection, light refraction, and how heat is related to light.

We have also learned that ALL GOOD SCIENTISTS ask questions, DRAW, and WRITE about what they observe. Students are really working on their scientific notebooking skills by following the ABCs of important scientific inquiry/notebooking.

A-Accurate Details
B- BIG drawings
C- Colorful Drawings
D- Detailed labels

Students have been working very hard these few weeks in science! Look at what we have done. :)

We have ran out of pencils. If you could have your child bring in some more it would be greatly appreciated! Thank You!

Perimeters, Areas, Angles, OH MY!!

Since we got back from Christmas break we have done a lot of work with measuring perimeter and area. We have also learned about charasteristics of triangles and quadrilaterals as well as right angles, an angle that is greater than 90 degrees, and an angle that is less than 90 degrees. We have also learned about flip, turns, and rotations. The kids have had alot of fun with this unit. They have measured just about EVERYTHING in the classroom including the Big yellow shape that has been put on our floor. They have made their own triangles and quadrilaterals with straws and twist ties. They have made tetromino shapes and determined the area of them. Who knew you could learn so much about area and geometry by playing games similar to my beloved childhood nintendo game tetrus. Please ask your child about the geometry activities they have done in math. In the afternoon when I ask the kids their favorite part of their day, it is no longer just RECESS. Math is fun! :)
